Interview with Mr. Oka, World Champion 100+ kg
Oka Tomoyuki from Japan, captured the gold medal in the 1st Combat Wrestling World Championship.
Here are his thoughts on the competition and Combat Wrestling in general:
Combat Wrestling originated in Japan and it is considered as the best base for an MMA fighter, since its beginning. I am very happy that now it is spreading globally and it was a great honour to win the heavyweight division in the 1st World Championship!.
Rules of Combat Wrestling are very straightforward and very easy to adapt to, for people with Olympic wrestling background.
In my opinion, Combat Wrestling can easily become the 3rd wrestling style in the Olympics if we all work towards that direction.
Considering the fact, that the 1st World Championship was held while some of the countries are still in forming process of their Combat Wrestling federations, I would say, that the competition and the organization were great! The athletes were hosted in a top level resort, near Varna, so I was very happy!
For the competition it self, I think I was the most experienced wrestler and that made it easier for me to capture the medal. I believe I was able to provide good entertainment to the public, with a few good moves.
I wish FICW to continue the good work and make Combat Wrestling popular in the whole world!!
Oka Tomoyuki has a long list of accomplishments in his career. He has won gold medals in 8 sports in Japan. Here are some of his titles:
